Description

Smith & Wesson K-Frame Target Stocks

These Smith & Wesson K-Frame Target Stocks are factory square-butt walnut revolver grips with the oversized Target profile, bordered checkering, silver S&W medallions, and included grip screw. The interior markings appear to include KT WAL, indicating K-frame Target – Walnut factory stock configuration.

Smith & Wesson K-Frame Square Butt Walnut Target Stocks

These are the large factory Target stocks, not the smaller Magna or service stock pattern. The broad lower profile, pronounced upper horn, and thumb-relief shape are correct for Smith & Wesson K-frame square-butt Target stocks. They are appropriate for many classic square-butt K-frame revolvers and may also fit compatible square-butt L-frame models.

Construction / Configuration / Pattern

The stocks are walnut with factory bordered checkered panels, smooth upper shoulders, silver-tone Smith & Wesson medallions, and internal metal reinforcing washers. The grip screw is included.

These are the later non-diamond Target stock pattern, produced after Smith & Wesson deleted the diamond around the grip-screw escutcheon from Target stocks. The interior factory ink markings appear to include KT WAL, which supports identification as factory K-frame Target stocks in walnut. These appear to be factory accessory or replacement stocks rather than grips serialized to a specific revolver.

Historical Context / Pattern Development

Smith & Wesson Target stocks were the larger factory grip option for revolvers where a fuller, more hand-filling grip was desired. On K-frame revolvers, they were commonly associated with target, duty, and sporting models where improved control and a larger grip profile were preferred over the smaller service-style stocks.

The non-diamond configuration, silver medallions, internal washer construction, and KT WAL factory-style markings are consistent with roughly early-1970s production, approximately 1971 to mid-1970s.

Condition

Good to very good vintage condition. The walnut shows attractive color with normal handling marks, light finish wear, scattered small scratches, and age-related surface wear. The checkering remains clearly defined with some light softening from use. The medallions, internal washers, factory markings, and grip screw are present.
