Description

German May Day political event badge dating to 1938. The front features a worker and agricultural scene above a German eagle and swastika. The inscription “MAI 1938” appears along the lower edge. The dark metal finish gives the raised design strong contrast and remains well defined. The badge shows age-related wear, light surface marks, and areas of finish loss. Please carefully review all photographs for the condition, markings, construction, and completeness of the badge.

The reverse retains its pin and catch assembly. It bears the clear maker marking “M. NETT FÜRTH i.B.” This marking identifies M. Nett of Fürth in Bavaria, a known German maker of stamped badges and insignia. Period references document M. Nett as an engraving and stamping firm. The company also manufactured other political and event badges during the Third Reich era.

The 1938 May Day Badge comes from the political May Day observances held in Germany during the Third Reich period. Badges of this type served as event and commemorative pieces rather than military awards. The dated design connects this example directly with the 1938 observance. Its surviving maker mark also allows collectors to identify the manufacturer rather than relying only on the design. Other documented May Day badges carry the M. Nett name, confirming the firm’s involvement in this category of period insignia.
