Description
German WWII commemorative medal associated with Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 100, a German Army mountain infantry regiment. The diamond-shaped medal features a large raised edelweiss flower at its center. The abbreviations “GEB. JÄG. RGT.” surround the flower, with the regimental number “100” below. The brass-toned surface shows age-related patina, spotting, finish wear, and surface marks. A rectangular suspension opening remains at the top. Please carefully review all photographs for the condition, markings, construction, and completeness of the medal.
The reverse records seven locations associated with the regiment’s wartime service. These include Cassino, Abruzzen, Pennin, Gemmano, Adria, Westalpen, and Mont Blanc. Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 100 served as a mountain infantry formation and became part of the 5th Gebirgs-Division. The regiment fought extensively in Italy during 1944, including operations around Cassino and Gemmano. It later served in the Western Alps during the closing period of World War II. The edelweiss served as the traditional emblem of German mountain troops. This Gebirgsjäger Regiment 100 Medal represents a regimental commemorative piece rather than an officially awarded military decoration.
