Smith & Wesson J-Frame Square Butt Grips
These Smith & Wesson J-Frame square butt grips are original factory smooth Goncalo Alves target stocks in their original Smith & Wesson retail packaging. The front label identifies them as Smooth Goncalo Alves Target Stocks for J-Frame – Square Butt revolvers.
Smith & Wesson J-Frame Square Butt Target Stocks
These grips are factory Smith & Wesson replacement target stocks for square-butt J-frame revolvers. The packaging lists compatibility for Models 49, 60, and 63, with the rear chart also showing related J-frame target and combat stock options for other square- and round-butt models.
Construction / Configuration / Pattern
The grips are smooth Goncalo Alves wood target stocks with a high-gloss finish, factory Smith & Wesson medallions, and included grip screw. The package is marked Target Stocks, J-Frame – Square Butt, and order number 163500000.
The rear packaging carries the Smith & Wesson / Bangor Punta Company marking. Bangor Punta ownership places this packaging in the approximate mid-1960s to early-1980s Smith & Wesson era, making the packaging itself part of the collector appeal.
Historical Context / Pattern Development
Smith & Wesson factory target stocks were a popular upgrade for revolver shooters who wanted a fuller grip profile than standard service stocks. On small-frame J-frame revolvers, square-butt target stocks provided a larger gripping surface while retaining the compact revolver frame size.
Factory-packaged Smith & Wesson grips are especially desirable to collectors because the packaging helps confirm model fit, wood type, finish, and period of sale. Bangor Punta-era packaging is an identifiable period detail for Smith & Wesson accessories and parts.
Condition
New in original package condition. The grips remain sealed on the original Smith & Wesson retail card with the grip screw present. The wood stocks show an attractive smooth Goncalo Alves grain pattern with factory medallions installed. The card shows age toning, light staining, edge wear, and storage wear from age, but remains intact and displayable.
