Description
Shoei of Japan FG42 Type I Early-Pattern Fallschirmjägergewehr 42 Blank-Firing / Model-Gun Replica with Scope, Bipod, and Sling
This is a Shoei of Japan FG42 Type I / early-pattern Fallschirmjägergewehr 42 blank-firing or model-gun replica, patterned after the scarce WWII German FG-42 paratrooper rifle. It is not an original wartime FG-42 service rifle, but a high-quality Japanese-made display replica built to closely capture the early FG-42 profile.
The gun has the classic early-pattern FG-42 look, including the sharply angled pistol grip, stamped-style metal buttstock, wood handguard, long barrel assembly, perforated muzzle device, folding bipod, side-mounted optic, and leather sling. The optic is present for display but is nonfunctional.
Historical Background
The FG-42 was developed for German Fallschirmjäger airborne troops during World War II. It was intended to give paratroopers a compact, rifle-caliber weapon with automatic-fire capability, a detachable magazine, optical sight compatibility, and the ability to serve in both rifle and light automatic roles.
Original FG-42 rifles were produced in limited numbers and remain among the most recognizable German small arms of the war. The early Type I pattern is especially distinctive, with its steeply raked pistol grip, metal buttstock, wood handguard, and unique receiver layout. Shoei of Japan became known for producing very realistic, high-quality model-gun replicas of rare military firearms, and their FG-42 replicas are well regarded as display pieces because original examples are almost unobtainable for most collectors.

Condition
This Shoei FG42 Type I display gun is in excellent overall display condition. The black metal finish remains strong with scattered handling marks, light scuffs, and minor edge wear. The barrel, muzzle device, bipod, receiver, optic mount, trigger group, and buttstock all present cleanly.
The wood handguard has an attractive reddish-brown finish with visible grain, light surface marks, and a good overall appearance. The black pistol grip and stamped-style buttstock remain clean and sharp. The leather sling is present and gives the piece a complete display appearance.
The optic is nonfunctional but mounted and visually complete. The bolt reciprocates, the safety functions, and the selector changes the internal action between closed-bolt and open-bolt style operation. Overall, this is a very strong display example of the early FG-42 pattern and a desirable Shoei-made replica of one of the most recognizable German paratrooper weapons of WWII.
