Description

Smith & Wesson N-Frame Diamond Magna Stocks

These Smith & Wesson N-Frame Diamond Magna stocks are original factory square-butt walnut grips with the classic postwar Magna profile. They feature factory S&W medallions, checkered panels, the distinctive uncheckered diamond around the grip-screw escutcheon, and the original grip screw.

Smith & Wesson N-Frame Square Butt Diamond Magna Stocks

These are factory Magna/service-style stocks for Smith & Wesson N-frame square-butt revolvers. They are not the larger Target stock pattern and did not receive the Plain Clothes / PC rounding treatment. The bases retain the standard square-butt Magna profile.

Construction / Configuration / Pattern

The stocks are walnut with checkered grip panels, smooth borders, factory S&W medallions, and the early diamond pattern around the screw escutcheon. The diamond around the grip screw is the key collector feature, separating these earlier Magna stocks from later non-diamond Magna grips.

The interiors are factory serialized to a revolver, with the visible serial-number ending appearing as 117. This serialized interior detail adds collector interest and is consistent with Smith & Wesson factory grip fitting practices of the period.

The original grip screw is included.

Historical Context / Pattern Development

Smith & Wesson Diamond Magna stocks were standard factory service-style grips on many postwar revolvers. On large-frame N-frame revolvers, the Magna profile provided a slimmer factory grip option compared to full Target stocks while retaining the traditional checkered walnut appearance.

The diamond escutcheon pattern is associated with earlier postwar production and was phased out around the mid-1960s as Smith & Wesson transitioned to the later non-diamond Magna style. For collectors, the N-frame fit, diamond pattern, factory medallions, serialized interior, and unmodified square-butt profile are the important identifying features.

Condition

Good vintage condition overall. The exterior shows honest age, handling wear, finish thinning, small scratches, and some softening to the checkering from use. The S&W medallions remain present. The interior faces show normal installation wear, age marks, factory-style inletting, and serialized markings ending in 117. The grip screw is included.
