Description

German WWII-era donation tinnie formed in the shape of a running rabbit or hare. The badge features stamped metal construction with detailed ears, legs, and body. A large red inset eye provides the most distinctive feature of the design. The darkened metal surface shows age-related wear, patina, scratches, and areas of finish loss. The reverse retains its horizontal pin and catch assembly. No maker marking is visible in the photographs. Please carefully review all photographs for the condition, construction, markings, and completeness of the badge.

German charitable organizations distributed many small collectible badges during fundraising drives in the Third Reich period. The Winterhilfswerk, or Winter Relief program, became particularly well known for these donation pieces. Manufacturers produced thousands of designs using metal, glass, ceramic, wood, and other inexpensive materials. Animal designs formed one part of this broad collecting field. This German WHW Rabbit Badge features an especially eye-catching red inset eye and surviving pin assembly. It represents a period fundraising collectible rather than a military award or combat decoration.
