Description

ERMA EL-24 Trainer for Mauser 98k

The ERMA EL-24 trainer is a complete, matching 1938 German subcaliber conversion kit. This allowed economical .22LR training with the Mauser 98k platform. The system preserved full rifle handling while reducing ammunition cost.

Produced by Erfurter Maschinenfabrik, the EL-24 reflects Germany’s pre-war marksmanship doctrine. ERMA manufactured major service arms including the Karabiner 98k and the MP40. The company also specialized in precision rimfire training systems.

EL-24 Subcaliber Conversion System

The ERMA EL-24 trainer uses a thin-walled .22 caliber barrel insert. The insert fits inside a standard 98k bore. A dedicated bolt assembly enables rimfire ignition. The replacement magazine floor plate adapter accepts the .22 magazines.

This design kept the rifle’s weight, sights, and trigger geometry intact. Soldiers trained with correct sight alignment and trigger control. Units conserved service ammunition during buildup to World War II.

The trainer bears Waffenamt 77, confirming ERMA military acceptance.

Matching 1938 ERMA Kit

This complete set includes:

  • Bolt-action EL-24 barrel insert for Mauser 98k

  • Round base plate .22 magazine WaffenAmt marked wa250 erma 1936

  • Flat base plate .22 magazine WaffenAmt marked wa77 erma 1938

  • Magazine floor plate adapter WaffenAmt marked wa77 erma 1938

  • Knurled, blued action wrench

  • Original storage box, WaffenAmt marked

The action, bolt, and magazine well adapter match serial number 371.

Condition and Collectability

The bluing on the action remains exceptional. The bolt shows vivid peacock fire bluing. The barrel insert is bright and free of bends or bulges. All serialized components match correctly. The magazines show little signs of use in line with the rest of the kit.

The original box is still clearly marked ERMA and WaffenAmt marked. It remains structurally sound, opens and closes securely, retains all components securely.

A complete ERMA EL-24 trainer with matching numbers and box is scarce. Advanced Mauser collectors actively seek intact rimfire conversion systems. This example represents a high-grade German WWII training accessory.
