Description
An original WWII German Luftwaffe Officer’s Sword, late-pattern aluminum variant, manufactured by SMF (Solinger Metallwarenfabrik Stöcker & Co.) of Solingen, Germany, one of the major and most respected edged-weapon producers of the Third Reich period.
This example represents the later wartime pattern, produced with lightweight aluminum fittings in response to material shortages and production streamlining. The mounts display the correct form and finish for late-war manufacture, with the gold-toned inlay showing natural age toning and wear consistent with period use.
The blade retains its correct profile and 30 inches in length, with the needle-point tip still present, though it shows a slight bend. There are small chips along the edge The blade surfaces show honest wear and aging, appropriate for an original officer’s sword. Blade type would be described as a double edge w/ a partial fuller.
The grip features the correct wire-wrapped handle, which remains intact but is slightly loose, a common condition on wartime examples. The original covering shows normal aging without major structural loss.
The scabbard is complete, retaining its original fittings, the leather frog is present. the scabbard shows signs of service use, with areas of leather damage along the body, consistent with wear from field carry and long-term storage. The seam remains intact, and the overall structure is solid.
Overall, this is a genuine, late-pattern Luftwaffe officer’s sword by a premier Solingen maker, displaying authentic wartime character. It represents an excellent opportunity for collectors seeking a well-used, historically honest example from the final years of German wartime production.
