Description

Bronze Grade SA Sports Badge (SA-Sportabzeichen) – Third Reich Germany

This is an original bronze grade SA Sports Badge (SA-Sportabzeichen) from Nazi Germany, issued between 1933 and 1945. The badge was awarded to military and paramilitary personnel who met prescribed standards in physical fitness, military preparedness, and field training, reflecting the regime’s emphasis on physical conditioning and combat readiness.

The design features a Roman-style broadsword, symbolizing martial strength, positioned in front of a mobile swastika, all enclosed within an eight-segment laurel leaf wreath representing achievement and endurance. The bronze finish denotes the entry-level award grade.

The SA Sports Badge was instituted on November 28, 1933, by SA Chief Ernst Röhm, and in 1935 it was formally recognized by Adolf Hitler as an official party decoration. Eligibility was expanded to include members of all German military and paramilitary organizations, not solely the SA.

Today, the bronze SA Sports Badge is a well-documented and collectible example of Third Reich era awards, valued for its historical context and period craftsmanship rather than ideology.
