Description

79th Infantry Division U.S. M1917 “Doughboy” Helmet with Unit Insignia and Cross of Lorraine: Combat History of the 79th Infantry Division 1942–1945 Hardcover

This grouping brings together an original U.S. M1917 “Doughboy” combat helmet attributed to the 79th Infantry Division and an original hardcover copy of Cross of Lorraine: Combat History of the 79th Infantry Division 1942–1945, creating a compelling and historically cohesive presentation.

The helmet retains its textured green wartime finish and is in very good overall condition. Although the liner and suspension system are absent, the shell itself remains solid and well preserved. Notably, the 79th Infantry Division insignia—the Cross of Lorraine—is still present on the exterior and remains almost completely intact, with minimal fading or chipping. Surviving divisional insignia of this quality are increasingly difficult to find, as helmet decals were often worn away through field use or removed postwar.

The included hardcover book, Cross of Lorraine: Combat History of the 79th Infantry Division 1942–1945, documents the division’s activation, training, and combat service in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. The volume is in excellent condition, with no missing pages, intact binding, and no tears, making it both a readable reference and a desirable collectible in its own right.

Together, the helmet and book offer both a tangible artifact and a detailed historical narrative of the 79th Infantry Division’s wartime service, making this an excellent set for collectors, historians, and displays focused on U.S. Army combat units of World War II.
