Description
Third Reich SS Formal Evening Dress Jacket
Presented here is an original Third Reich SS formal evening dress jacket, an example of ceremonial attire worn for official functions and social events rather than field service. Garments of this type were produced in limited numbers and were intended to project status and ideological symbolism within the SS hierarchy.
The jacket is constructed of white linen and is fully lined in white silk, reflecting its formal purpose and seasonal wear. The front is fitted with six pebbled metal buttons on the breast, each adorned with the skull and crossed bones motif associated with SS insignia. A distinctive double-button chain closure is present, utilizing matching skull-and-crossbones pebbled buttons, a detail specific to formal SS evening dress.
The lapels display Totenkopf insignia mounted on red felt backing with black edge stitching, consistent with formal dress presentation. Affixed to the left arm is a National Socialist Party armband, applied in the standard manner for ceremonial wear. The overall tailoring is compact and sharply cut, consistent with period formal uniforms designed for close fit and presentation rather than comfort or utility.
Condition reflects age and careful use, with materials remaining intact and structurally sound. The linen exterior and silk lining show expected signs of age. The cuffs have come unstitched but all other elements of the garment remain intact to best of our observations.
As a historical artifact, this jacket represents the formal dress culture of the SS and serves as a study piece for collectors, researchers, or institutions examining the material culture and visual symbolism of the Third Reich. It is best suited for controlled display and academic or curatorial contexts.
