Original German WWII Aluminum Fitted Luftwaffe Officer’s Sword by SMF — Solingen Production
This is an authentic WWII German Luftwaffe Officer’s Sword, produced by SMF (Solinger Metallwaffenfabrik, Solingen), one of the premier German blade manufacturers of the period. This example features the lightweight aluminum fittings characteristic of later-war production, paired with the classic blue leather-covered grip and scabbard, both showing honest age and service wear consistent with period use.
The SMF maker’s mark with the seated king holding a sword is crisply stamped on the ricasso, confirming genuine wartime manufacture. The double-etched aluminum hilt fittings retain their Luftwaffe eagle and swastika emblems, with light patina throughout. The wire-wrapped grip remains intact and tight, and the scabbard leather retains its deep blue hue with minimal flaking.
The nickel-plated blade is in very good condition, showing minor age toning but maintaining a bright finish and excellent edge profile. The sword measures approximately 37 inches overall, with a 32-inch blade, balanced for ceremonial wear and parade presentation by Luftwaffe officers and flight personnel.
