Description
Original United States Navy Officers sword by Hilborn-Hamburger with travel case, box, and belt
Here we have an excellent example of a U.S. Navy Officer’s Sword by Hilborn-Hamburger, complete with its original scabbard and in overall very good condition. The sword features a white ray-skin grip bound with twisted brass wire, still tight and showing only light age toning, with no cracks or major wear. Sword alone measures approximately 36” in overall length, and in the scabbard it is approximately 37 ½”. The blade itself is 30″ long, lightly curved, and unsharpened.
The German-made stainless steel blade is beautifully acid-etched on both sides with UNITED STATES NAVY, naval fouled anchor motifs, and scrolling floral designs. The original Felt blade washer is present, keeping the fit tight to the hilt.
The ricasso bears the full Hilborn-Hamburger Solingen trademark:
The reverse ricasso is stamped with the standard six-pointed star containing the word PROVED.
The scabbard is in equally fine condition, retaining all three original mounts with brass throat, middle band, and drag, each with suspension rings. The black leather body remains supple, showing only light surface handling wear but does have one small tear just below the lower hanger fitting.
Overall condition is excellent, with just minor patina to the brass mounts and the faintest scabbard wear expected from age.
A fine Hilborn-Hamburger U.S. Navy Officer’s Sword, ready for display in any edged weapons or U.S. Navy militaria collection.
