Description
Original French WWI-era firefighter’s buckle (sapeur-pompier) dating from the 1914–1918 period.
This is a large decorative metal buckle, originally mounted to the wide leather belts worn by French firefighters during the early 20th century. Such buckles often carried ornate or symbolic motifs associated with the sapeurs-pompiers and were distinct from French military issue of the period.
While the leather belt is no longer present, the buckle itself survives in good collectible condition, retaining its original size and weight that made these firefighter pieces so distinctive.
