Original WWII Japanese Type 30 Last-Ditch Bayonet with Rubberized Scabbard and Intact Belt Loops

This is an authentic WWII Japanese Type 30 last-ditch bayonet, complete with its original rubberized canvas scabbard and intact belt loops. The Type 30 bayonet was standard issue for the Arisaka rifle series and saw service with Imperial Japanese forces from the Russo-Japanese War through the end of the Second World War.

This example is a true “last-ditch” wartime production piece, manufactured during Japan’s final desperate years of WWII when materials and machining time were severely limited. The blade features the simplified late-war profile, with less refined grinding and a darkened wartime finish. The grips are secured by rivets rather than screws, a common expedient measure in these final production runs.

The scabbard is the scarce rubberized canvas variant, developed late in the war as a material-saving alternative to steel. The surface retains its original wartime texture and coloration, with the belt loops fully intact—an uncommon survival, as these fabric components are often missing or deteriorated. The suspension loops are strong and serviceable, making this a well-preserved example of a difficult-to-find configuration.

Last-ditch bayonets offer a tangible reminder of the extreme conditions faced by Japan’s wartime industry in 1944–45. Collectors value them both for their unique construction features and their historical significance as products of a collapsing empire.

Complete and original last-ditch Type 30 bayonets with rubberized scabbards are increasingly rare, especially with intact loops and wartime patina. This example would be ideal for display alongside a late-war Arisaka rifle or within a comprehensive WWII Japanese militaria collection.
