WW1 M1911 Leather Flap Holster Perkins Cambell 1917 – R.J.M. Marked

This is an original U.S. M1916 leather holster manufactured during World War I for the Colt M1911 .45 ACP pistol. Dated 1917 and made by Perkins-Campbell Company, this early example bears the inspector stamp “R.J.M.” (Lt. Robert J. McAleer), one of the U.S. Ordnance Department officers responsible for approving military leather goods during the Great War.

Constructed from robust russet brown leather, this holster follows the original M1916 full-flap design, featuring a brass stud closure, reinforced toe plug, contoured body, and wide rear belt loop. The flap bears a deeply stamped “U.S.” in oval cartouche, while the reverse shows a strong and legible maker’s mark: “PERKINS-CAMPBELL / 1917” beneath the inspector’s initials “R.J.M.” in standard military script.

The leather shows over a century of natural aging with attractive patina, subtle crazing, and no signs of rot or structural compromise. The stitching remains solid throughout, and the brass closure functions as intended. The belt loop is unmodified and ready for wear or display. The interior has preserved the profile of a 1911 frame, making this an excellent companion for any WWI Colt pistol.

1917-dated Perkins-Campbell holsters are less commonly encountered than those by larger suppliers like Mills or Graton & Knight, making this a standout for early U.S. military gear collectors. The presence of a clear inspector cartouche only adds to its desirability.

A fully original, war-issued M1911 holster with deep WWI provenance—correct, complete, and ready for the display case or field impression.
