Description
Original WWII US .45 ACP Ball Ammunition Can – 600 Rounds for M1911 – T2AAF Marked, 1944 Repack
This is an authentic WWII U.S. military .45 ACP ball ammunition can, containing 600 rounds intended for the iconic M1911 service pistol. The can is marked T2AAF with lot number EC-S-25180, and clearly labeled Repacked EC-5-44, indicating repackaging at the Evansville Chrysler plant in May 1944. The can retains its original military-green finish, with all stenciled markings legible and undisturbed.
One end of the can features the built-in carry handle for transport, while the opposite end retains the original ammunition can opener tool affixed to the body—an increasingly uncommon survival feature. The bottom is stenciled “UNFIT FOOD CONTAINER”, a wartime safety requirement to prevent postwar civilian misuse.
This .45 ACP ball ammunition was the standard U.S. military load for the Colt M1911 and M1911A1 pistols, as well as the M1928/M1 Thompson and M3 “Grease Gun” submachine guns. During the war, Evansville Chrysler was one of the largest U.S. ammunition producers, supplying billions of rounds to the Allied war effort. Repack cans like this were assembled from earlier production lots, inspected, and sealed for long-term storage and distribution to overseas theaters.
Unopened cans of WWII .45 ACP in original military configuration are becoming exceptionally scarce, especially with intact handles, original opening tools, and clear repack markings. This is a prime opportunity for serious U.S. militaria collectors to secure a complete, well-marked wartime ammunition container with both historical and display value.
