WWII DAK Tropenhelm – JHS Second Pattern

This original WWII DAK Tropenhelm represents the Second Pattern pith helmet issued to the Deutsches Afrikakorps (DAK). Manufactured by JHS, this example displays the correct construction features associated with mid-war production helmets intended for tropical service.

Construction and Interior Details

The leather brim remains supple and intact. It shows honest signs of field handling; however, it exhibits no cracking, splitting, or structural weakness. Therefore, it maintains both integrity and period character.

Internally, the helmet features the correct green felt liner beneath a red felt inner crown pad. Moreover, the leather suspension band remains affixed to its original metal standoffs. The leather band bears a clear JHS maker mark, confirming period manufacture.

The chin strap is present and remains in very good condition. It retains flexibility and proper attachment hardware. Consequently, the helmet presents as a complete and unaltered example.

The helmet retains its vented crown configuration, a defining feature of the second pattern design. Additionally, the exterior fabric covering remains in excellent condition, with strong color and no notable fading or deterioration.
