Original WWI Australian Pattern 1907 Sword Bayonet with Scabbard

This is an authentic WWI Australian Pattern 1907 sword bayonet, complete with its original steel-mounted leather scabbard. The Pattern 1907 was the standard bayonet issued with the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) rifle, carried by Australian Imperial Force troops throughout the First World War. Its long, fullered blade was designed for reach and effectiveness in both bayonet charges and close-quarters trench fighting.

This example was produced by one of Australia’s wartime bayonet contractors and bears correct manufacturer’s markings on the ricasso along with the crown inspection stamps used during the Great War. The wooden grip panels are securely riveted and retain the correct oil-finished appearance. The steel pommel features the integral spring catch, functioning properly for attachment to the SMLE rifle.

The accompanying leather scabbard is fitted with steel throat and chape, showing age-appropriate service wear without postwar modification. Scabbards of this period are increasingly difficult to find intact, making this set especially desirable for collectors.

The Pattern 1907 bayonet became a symbol of the ANZAC soldier, famously carried at Gallipoli, on the Western Front, and in Middle Eastern campaigns. Surviving examples in complete condition are sought after both by militaria enthusiasts and historians for their direct connection to Australia’s military heritage.

With its original scabbard and correct WWI markings, this bayonet represents a fine example of early 20th-century Australian arms production and service history, ideal for display alongside an SMLE rifle or within a broader Commonwealth military collection.
