Description

Springfield Armory M1 Garand Barrel – Dated 1946, U.S. GI Postwar Production

This is an original Springfield Armory M1 Garand barrel, dated 5-46, manufactured as part of the U.S. military’s immediate post–World War II rearmament program. With clear “SA” markings, date stamp, and drawing number, this U.S. GI barrel is ideal for restoring a correct postwar M1 rifle or upgrading a shooter with a genuine Springfield component.

Made from ordnance-grade steel, this .30-06 caliber barrel features the standard 1:10 twist and a four-groove rifled bore. Postwar barrels like this were manufactured using wartime tooling and techniques, but with improved quality control and metallurgy as the U.S. prepared for the new realities of Cold War readiness and occupation duty. Barrels from 1946 are commonly seen on rifles rebuilt at arsenals like Springfield and Red River, often as part of the initial wave of postwar refurbishments.

This barrel includes original markings: “SA” for Springfield Armory, a heat lot code, and a legible 5-46 date stamp. Bore condition is typically good to very good, with strong rifling—ideal for both shooting and collecting. Whether you’re restoring a CMP rifle, building a correct transitional Garand, or preserving a piece of Cold War history, this barrel is a foundational component.

Unlike reproduction barrels or commercial replacements, this original Springfield barrel maintains historical integrity and collector appeal. 1946-dated examples are increasingly rare as they mark a brief window between WWII and Korea.
