Set of Four Antique Wooden Gazyr Tubes with Ornate Metal Caps – Caucasus, Late 19th Century

$299.99

SKU: WEB102 Categories: ,

Description

This is a beautifully preserved set of four original wooden gazyr tubes, used in traditional Caucasian dress and military uniforms. Each piece is turned from wood and features ornate metal end caps, likely brass or alloy, with engraved or repoussé detailing. These gazyr do not open and appear to be non-functional or ceremonial in nature, suggesting they were worn on formal chokha uniforms rather than intended for storing live cartridges.

Gazyr like these were traditionally worn across the chest in a gazyrnitsa bandolier or sewn directly to the iconic chokha coat—worn by Georgian, Circassian, and Cossack warriors. As the 19th century progressed, these items evolved from battlefield equipment to potent symbols of regional identity and warrior culture.

This complete set shows matching construction, honest patina, and excellent visual appeal. A fantastic addition to any collection of Imperial Russian frontier militaria, ethnographic arms and armor, or 19th-century Caucasian dress.
