Original WWII Arisaka Type 99 Monopod – Japanese Rifle Accessory

This is an original monopod for the Type 99 Arisaka rifle, a rarely surviving accessory that was standard on early-production Japanese infantry rifles. Designed to improve stability during prone fire, the steel monopod folds up against the stock when not in use and locks into position with a spring-loaded catch—adding both functional and collector value to any complete Type 99 build.

Issued on select Type 99 short rifles, especially those produced at the Nagoya and Toyo Kogyo arsenals, the monopod was one of several features intended to enhance battlefield performance. While effective in theory, it was often removed by troops in the field due to its added weight and limited practical use in dense terrain.

This example is an original wartime piece, not a reproduction. It features the correct blued steel finish, curved foot, and mounting loop designed to fit onto the barrel band (not included). The locking spring is functional, and the overall patina matches what you’d expect from genuine WWII surplus. Whether you’re restoring a rifle to its as-issued condition or preserving Imperial Japanese history, this piece is increasingly hard to find in any condition.

Authentic Arisaka monopods were commonly discarded or lost over time, and most rifles on today’s market are missing them. Adding one dramatically improves both historical accuracy and display appeal for collectors focused on the full configuration of the Type 99.
