Description

Original U.S. WWI Colt M1892 / S&W M1902 Revolver Holster by Rock Island Arsenal – Dated 1906

This is an authentic early 20th-century U.S. military revolver holster, produced by Rock Island Arsenal and dated 1906, designed for the Colt M1892 and Smith & Wesson M1902 .38-caliber service revolvers. The holster retains its original configuration, featuring the classic flap-top design and belt loop with brass closure stud, consistent with the U.S. Army’s standard sidearm issue during the pre–World War I era.

The reverse is unit-marked “57”, indicating issue to a specific company or unit, a rare and desirable detail for collectors. The holster also bears the inspector’s initials “H.E.K.”, referencing Henry E. Kelsey, a U.S. Ordnance officer known for inspecting Rock Island Arsenal leather goods during the transitional years between the Spanish-American War and World War I.

Constructed of high-quality leather, the holster remains supple and intact, with light wear and surface patina appropriate to its age. Stitching remains tight, and the closure strap and belt loop are fully functional. The Rock Island Arsenal marking and 1906 date are clearly legible, adding to its display and historical value.

This example represents a fine, serviceable piece of early U.S. Army equipment, bridging the era between the revolver and automatic pistol. Its unit marking, inspector stamp, and solid preservation make it a sought-after addition for collectors of U.S. military holsters and ordnance leather.
