Original German WWI Prussian M1895 Infantry Enlisted Man’s Pickelhaube Spiked Helmet

This is an original Imperial German Prussian M1895 Infantry enlisted man’s Pickelhaube, a classic and highly recognizable helmet of the Kaiserreich era and a standard issue item for Prussian infantry troops during the late 19th century and the opening years of the First World War.

The helmet retains its correct leather shell, which shows expected age-related shrinkage, a common characteristic of Pickelhauben that have survived more than a century. Despite the shrinkage, the helmet remains structurally sound and clearly identifiable, with its form and details intact. The exterior leather exhibits honest period wear consistent with long-term aging rather than misuse.

All fittings and emblems remain in good condition, including the front Prussian wappen featuring the Prussian state eagle, as well as the spike assembly mounted to the crown. The metal components display appropriate patina, with no signs of modern replacement, reflecting original manufacture and long-term storage. As an M1895 pattern, this helmet represents the pre-war standard before the material and finish changes introduced with the M1915 regulations.

The M1895 Pickelhaube was worn throughout the Imperial German Army and became emblematic of Prussian military identity. Helmets of this pattern saw extensive service in the early phases of World War I before being gradually replaced by simplified M1915 versions and, ultimately, by the steel helmet.

This example is a solid, honest survivor of the Imperial era, well suited for collectors of Imperial German militaria, Prussian infantry equipment, or World War I–era headgear. Its age-related characteristics are typical of original pieces and underscore its authenticity and historical presence.
