Mother’s Cross – Bronze German WWII Der Deutschen Mutter

$165.00

Description

Up for sale is an original German WWII Mother’s Cross—officially known as the Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter or “Cross of Honor of the German Mother”—awarded to women who bore and raised large families in service of the Third Reich’s population policies.

Instituted by Adolf Hitler on December 16, 1938, the Mother’s Cross was issued in Bronze, Silver, and Gold grades, depending on the number of children: four for Bronze, six for Silver, and eight or more for Gold. This example, marked “Der Deutschen Mutter” (“To the German Mother”), features the iconic blue and white enamel cross with a central black swastika surrounded by a silvered wreath.

Awarded annually on Mother’s Day, the decoration was both a propaganda tool and a means to promote Nazi ideals of motherhood and racial purity. This piece remains in original condition with strong enamel, intact ribbon, and proper wartime construction.

A poignant artifact from the social engineering side of the Nazi regime, the Mother’s Cross offers collectors a tangible link to the domestic and ideological campaigns of WWII-era Germany.
