Description
Authentic WWII Kriegsmarine High Seas Fleet Badge (Flottenkriegsabzeichen) – Richard Simm & Söhne, Gablonz
This is an original World War II German Navy (Kriegsmarine) High Seas Fleet Badge, also known as the Flottenkriegsabzeichen, produced by Richard Simm & Söhne of Gablonz, as indicated by the reverse maker mark “R.S.&S.”. Richard Simm & Söhne is a well-known and respected wartime manufacturer, and their naval badges are noted for quality striking and fine detail.
The High Seas Fleet Badge was instituted on April 30, 1941, by Grand Admiral Erich Raeder and awarded to personnel serving aboard German battleships and cruisers of the Kriegsmarine. Eligibility was typically granted after a minimum of twelve weeks of active service, though the award could also be conferred earlier if the recipient was wounded in action or if the vessel was lost or destroyed during combat operations.
Designed by Adolf Bock, the badge depicts a battleship cutting through stylized waves, encircled by an oak leaf wreath, with a German national eagle clutching a swastika positioned at the top. The design symbolizes naval strength, endurance, and service at sea.
A highly collectible and historically significant example of Kriegsmarine naval awards, this High Seas Fleet Badge is sought after by collectors for its clear maker attribution, wartime authenticity, and strong visual presence.
