Extremely Rare Unissued WWII Japanese Winter Pilot’s Suit Set (A-Spec Electrically Heated Model, Post-1942 Production)

This authentic WWII Imperial Japanese Army Air Force winter flying suit represents one of the most advanced examples of wartime aviation clothing. Designated as an A-spec electrically heated flight suit, this one-piece brown coverall was developed to protect bomber and fighter pilots operating at high altitude in extreme cold.

Constructed from durable brown gabardine, the suit features a rabbit fur-lined collar, two zippered upper slash pockets, and large patch thigh pockets for maps and tools. The removable belt with metal buckle and reinforced loops ensures a secure fit, while zippered wrist cuffs help retain warmth. A functional electric cord extends from the rear waist area, allowing connection to the aircraft’s power system to heat internal wiring woven through the suit.

Constructed of Leather, the Cap features a Fur Lining, and a double ring chin strap closure. A imperial star is affixed to the forehead area of the cap denoting the Japanese empire. The leather remains flexible and supple, with no cracks, tears, or major flaws. The set as a whole is in unissued condition.

Measurements (approximate):

  • Collar to shoulder: 5-3/4″

  • Shoulder to sleeve: 22-1/2″

  • Shoulder to shoulder: 17-1/2″

  • Chest width: 17-1/2″

  • Waist: 20″

  • Hip: 22″

  • Front length: 56″

This 1945 production With post 1940 revisions A-spec example omits the earlier attachment points for the heated leather hood, which was no longer issued after design revisions. Unlike later B-spec suits, which substituted sheep for locally sourced cat fur, this early model retains the original A-spec materialsrabbit fur for the collar and large-tailed Han sheep wool for the interior lining.

Unissued and extremely well preserved, this is a museum-grade artifact representing the peak of Japanese WWII aviation gear engineering. Rarely encountered outside institutional collections, it stands as one of the finest surviving examples of a complete, original WWII Japanese heated pilot’s flight suit.
