Description
Chinese AKM Type II Bayonet – Red Grip (No Wire Cutter)
For sale is an original Chinese AKM Type II bayonet with its rare matching red polymer scabbard, issued for use with the Type 56 assault rifle—China’s licensed variant of the Soviet AKM. This variant is an early non-wire cutter model, and examples with color-matched scabbards are especially desirable among AK bayonet collectors and Cold War militaria enthusiasts.
The bayonet features a distinctive clip-point blade with a full-length fuller, and a muzzle ring on the crossguard designed to secure over the barrel of a Type 56 rifle. The pommel includes the standard slot and release catch typical of Type II production. The deep red polymer grip panels are intact with minor handling marks, and have not been refinished or altered.
What truly sets this piece apart is its original red scabbard, molded from the same material as the grips—unlike later versions with blackened steel wire-cutter scabbards. This scabbard shows minor wear from service use and retains its internal rubber insulator, though this bayonet model does not include the wire cutter feature.
Bayonets like this represent a specific transitional moment in Chinese small arms history before the adoption of multifunctional bayonet designs. It’s an essential item for any serious collection of Chinese military surplus, Vietnam War gear, or AK-pattern rifles and accessories.
These early red sets are drying up fast, especially complete examples in original condition with color-matched scabbards.
