Description
Military Surplus .410 Enfield Musket MK-1-Z — Tin (180) in Crate — Incomplete Half-Case (170/180)
These should not be chambered in a standard .410 shotgun, only for use in firearms designed to fire the .410 MKI-Z.
Offered is a military surplus half-case of .410 Enfield Musket MK-1-Z ammunition, packed in a tin originally of 180 cartridges within the original wood crate. These are .410 smoothbore small-arms cartridges loaded with lead round ball in brass cases and Berdan-primed — typical service loading for training, pistols, or alternative rifle applications. Historically, the British issued the converted guns to police cadres and it was used in some military units during the Waziristan and Mohmand Campaigns in the 1930s by Nowshera and Peshawar Brigades.
This lot is incomplete: the crate contains 170 of the original 180 cartridges. Half-case format was commonly used for pistol ammunition or non-standard rifle loadings. Marking “Mk. Iz” on the Packages denotes nitrocellulose propellant (smokeless), an important identification for period correct ammo documentation and safe storage considerations. The .410 shotshell case was made from un-necked 303 British cases. Standard .410 shotshells will not chamber in a Enfield Musket, only these specific shotshells or round balls will. Conversely, These should not be chambered in a standard .410 shotgun as the chamber pressure generated is possibly 2-4x higher than standard .410 loadings!!
Condition: factory-packed packets with period crate, showing expected storage patina. Sold as original surplus ammunition lot — buyers should confirm local laws regarding purchase, transport, and storage of live ammunition.
