German / French SVW K98K 8mm Mauser Post WW2 WWII C&R Bolt Action Rifle
$2,500.00
Up for auction is a Mauser SVW 98K chambered in 8mm Mauser. This rifle is a French Built 98K for the French army utilizing leftover German WW2 K98K parts. This immediate post war gun was intended to be scrubbed of all German markings and issued to the french. But the Germans being the Germans, they stamped every last square inch of these rifles and obviously a few markings squeezed through, to include a waffenamt on the rear sight of the rifle. Date of manufacture is C. 1945 – 1946. This rifle is a fairly rare variation of the 98K. Especially because not a lot of them were made, and the situation that created it was a fairly quick moment in the pages of history. If you collect rare variations of the mauser rifle, this rifle is a must have.
Mauser, originally the Königlich Württembergische Gewehrfabrik, was a German arms manufacturer. Their line of bolt-action rifles and semi-automatic pistols was produced beginning in the 1870s for the German armed forces. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Mauser designs were also exported and licensed to many countries, which adopted them as military and civilian sporting firearms. The Gewehr 98 in particular was widely adopted and copied, and it is the foundation of many of today’s sporting bolt-action rifles.
